About Lufkin

Angelina County is the only one of Texas 254 counties named for a woman. It was named for Angelina, an Indian girl described in the journals of Spanish and French explorers. Her name was also given to the Angelina River.

Lufkin is considered the regional hub in East Texas, which includes 12 surrounding counties and is known for its forests that stretch for several miles. Our residents enjoy an outstanding quality of life including excellent schools, beautiful parks and open spaces, cultural arts, and a broad range of recreational activities. Visitors are happy to explore the many assets our community has to offer and enjoy our enviable weather.

Many of our residents are new, not just to this region, but to the United States. They have come from all parts of the globe to work and live in a community that has much to offer, and to experience and enjoy our part of the Texas Forest Country.

Relax and let your surroundings dictate a new appreciation for all the good things Lufkin has to offer. Dine at an array of restaurants, shop to your heart’s content, and stay at accommodating hotels. Enjoy theater, musical performances, museums, the zoo, and more!
