Tara Watson-Watkins is the Lufkin Convention and Visitors Bureau’s Executive Director and the Artistic Director of The Pines Theater. She is a 2001 graduate of Texas Christian University with a degree in Speech Language Pathology. Upon graduation, Tara worked in Dallas and Austin as a pharmaceutical representative with Pfizer Pharmaceuticals and Santarus. In 2006, Tara returned to her hometown of Lufkin as the Marketing Director for Woodland Heights Medical Center. Her combined experience, hometown pride and love of bringing people together, led Tara to her current position with the Convention and Visitors Bureau where she has served as director for the past 7 years.
Tara had the opportunity to travel across the Lone Star State as Miss Texas 2000 where she spoke with over 300,000 school aged kids on staying in school, being drug free, setting goals and presenting her HIV/AIDS program, Stayin’ Alive. She was also named to the Top 10 at Miss America in 2001. She is a 2012 graduate of Leadership Texas and is very active in her community serving on the boards of Hospice in the Pines the LISD Education Foundation, the Junior League of Lufkin, Chamber of Commerce and PineCrest Retirement Community. She also serves as the chairman for many Lufkin Chamber of Commerce functions. She is involved in her church where she sings in the choir and continues to be an HIV/AIDS activist.
When Tara is not volunteering in the community or at home with her husband, attorney Brent Watkins, and daughter, Analeigh Grace, she lectures and teaches across the state and throughout the country.
Taylor Mulnix is the newest addition to the Lufkin Convention and Visitors Bureau’s team where she is the Administrative Assistant. Taylor was born and raised in Flower Mound, Texas along with her two younger sisters. From the age of four Taylor has grown up playing soccer so when she was offered a full athletic college scholarship she could not turn it down. A 2014 graduate of Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA, Taylor holds a degree in Hospitality Management with a concentration in Travel and Tourism. During her years as a student-athlete, Taylor participated in the Natchitoches community where she volunteered numerous hours with soccer camps, Mardi Gras events, Christmas Fest and numerous other fundraisers throughout the community.
Before completing her degree at Northwestern State, Taylor completed an Internship at Crown Colony Country Club in Lufkin, Texas. She was afforded lots of wonderful opportunities and educational experiences through her internship including working alongside the Lufkin Convention and Visitors Bureau for the annual Corks & Forks event where she first worked with Tara Watson-Watkins, Director of the Lufkin Convention & Visitors Bureau. Taylor fell in love with East Texas and Lufkin and upon graduation she was hired full time at Crown Colony Country Club.
When the administrative assistant position opened up at the Lufkin Convention & Visitors Bureau, Taylor was thrilled about the opportunity to work as Tara’s new assistant! She began working in August of 2014, and has loved every second since!
