2009 SOUTHERN HUSHPUPPY CHAMPIONSHIP

If you’ve got the secret ingredient to the most delicious hushpuppy recipe, then sign-up your team for the 38th Annual Brookshire Brothers/HYTOP Southern Hushpuppy Championships to be held at the 25th Annual Texas State Forest Festival on Saturday, September 19, 2009.

Registration for the 38th Annual Brookshire Brothers/Hy-Top Southern Hushpuppy Championships is under way until Friday, September 4th at the Lufkin/Angelina County Chamber of Commerce. Entry fee for the Championships is $50, with cash prizes awarded to these “deep-fried and delicious” hushpuppies worth $500 for first place, $250 second place, and $100 for third. The first heat will begin at 1:00 p.m. with 3 or more to follow, and don’t forget the showmanship award! A showmanship plaque will be awarded to the team with the most creative theme that captures and enhances the fun and spirit of the Southern Hushpuppy Championships!

Hushpuppies come in all shapes, sizes, and flavors and will be judged on taste, originality, and appearance. The competition features all types of teams including family teams, business teams, non-profit organization teams, and teams comprised of children and teenagers.
