The Lufkin Daily News
The Lufkin Convention and Visitors Bureau has launched its redesigned website, visitlufkin.com, with a fresh new look and engaging features that showcase everything Lufkin has to offer visitors and convention planners.
"Our website is vital because much of the time it's the first peak a potential visitor has at our community," Tara Watson-Watkins, executive director of the Lufkin Convention and Visitors Bureau, said. "With this redesign, we're really showing off what makes Lufkin such a special place, and we're making it much easier for visitors, especially people who are considering bringing their convention or meeting here, to find all the information they could possibly need."
The Lufkin CVB worked with Point A Media to develop clear goals during the redesign process, with a focus on redesigning the look, feel and navigation of the site and creating new features to improve the site's functionality. The new site is visually striking, with a simple and clean layout, easy-to-read type and large photos that show off Angelina County's natural beauty, exciting annual events and versatile venues, wide variety of restaurants, accommodations and shops. It is also easier to navigate and includes more content and up-to-date information, all of which makes for a more appealing experience for visitors.
"The new site is already encouraging visitors to stay longer and browse through more pages," Watson-Watkins said. "We also took advantage of the opportunity to launch new social media outlets and integrate all of our outreach tools, so we have consistent branding with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and YouTube. This website has a streamlined eNews subscription tool, which is already attracting new subscribers."
In addition to increased visual appeal and accessibility, the redesigned site features new sub-sites for The Pines Theater and the Pitser Garrison Civic Center and special resources for event planners who are organizing sports tournaments, meetings or conventions.
"A big part of this new site is the outreach we're making to sports tournaments and conventions," Watson-Watkins said. "When people bring an event to Lufkin, we do everything we can to make sure the planning process goes smoothly and they feel comfortable and welcome. Making all the initial information they want as easily accessible as possible is the first step in that process."
The new visitlufkin.com features several new details "under the hood" that make it more user-friendly and improve its performance on search engines. The site launched with nine categories, 76 subcategories, 228 content pages, 131 event listings, 366 photos and 47 documents, and the custom content management system and dynamic events calendar allow for quick updates. The site is scalable for use on multiple devices, and the WC3 standard Web Accessibility Initiative enhancements allow the visually impaired to use reading software to recognize and describe images embedded in each page. The new site is optimized with description tags and a tableless CSS design that allow search engines to read and index the site quickly and efficiently.
"We have a lot of bells and whistles that will help us sell Lufkin," Watson-Watkins said. "Most important, I think, is that it's a beautiful and fully functional site that's easy to navigate. This redesign is an important addition to the CVB's toolbox for the attraction of visitors, reunions, weddings, sports tournaments, meetings and conventions. We encourage everyone to check it out!"
