It’s time for your grand entrance! Get the celebrity experience on Feb. 22 during the first-ever Oscar Night at The Pines, where you can walk the red carpet like a star. Be sure to wear your most fabulous attire, because your photo will be taken by the paparazzi as you enter the event.
“We hope to make this an annual event and watch it grow yearly,” said Tara Watson-Watkins, artistic director of The Pines Theater. “Randy Cadwell with Channel 15 asked me if I had ever thought about showing the Oscars live at the Pines one morning, and it just snowballed from there. My mind started going 90 miles an hour on fun ideas and ways to not only watch the Oscars, live but make a fun night and party out of it. Everyone loves to see what the actors are wearing and loves a good party, so why not have our own Oscar celebration at the beautiful and historic Pines Theater?”
Guests will also experience a walk down the Hollywood Walk of Fame complete with “Lufkin Stars,” a chance to tell the Red Carpet folks “who they are wearing” and enjoy some great food and beverages.
As guests enter the theater, they will receive a glass of complimentary champagne and receive an Oscar bingo card.
“Some of the bingo answers to mark out are ‘I’d like to thank the Academy,’ ‘Shout out to Harvey Weinstein,’ ‘I didn’t prepare a speech,’ etc.,” Watson-Watkins said.
The winning Bingo prizes are tickets to upcoming Pines Theater performances.
“We will also hand them ballots to be able to drop in the bowls,” Watson-Watkins said. “(They will choose) who they believe will win certain categories such as Best Actress, Best Picture, Best Director, etc. As the winner is called out live, we will pull a ballot from the winners bowl and give gifts that are being donated from our downtown merchants and The Pines. It will be a fun night to cheer on your favorite actor and favorite movie of the year!”
Watson-Watkins said she encourages people to purchase tickets ahead of time so they can know how much food to prepare. Tickets are $20 each, which covers hors d’oeuvres and a complimentary glass of Champagne. There will also be a cash bar available at the event.
“Tickets are available by calling the Lufkin Convention and Visitors Bureau at 633-0359 or 633-0349 or by coming by our office located inside the Chamber of Commerce,” she said. “Tickets will also be available at the door the night of, but we would love to have somewhat of a head count so that we have enough food for everyone! We would also love for people to dress up and bring your friends. Dress up, make your grand entrance and have fun!”
