Any day now the summer sun will peek its head out from behind the clouds and we will all be praying for the rain to return when the Texas heat kicks in. Until then, Lufkin has plenty going on to keep everyone entertained and out of the elements.
As most of you may know, the Neches River Rendezvous that was scheduled for Saturday was canceled due to the tremendous amounts of rainfall. Everyone involved was concerned for the safety of the participants and forecasts were indicating that the Neches River would most likely be in or very near flood stage. Road conditions are treacherous out there. We apologize for any inconvenience and are already looking forward to next year’s event.
With all of the rain we have been having you may be looking for some indoor fun. The Pines Theater will be hosting the Pineywoods Jamboree Classic Country Show on Saturday. If you are interested in purchasing tickets call 639-9268. The Pines Theater also will be showing the original “Footloose” on June 13. Tickets are $5 per person, snacks and refreshments are $2 each, so you won’t break the bank to enjoy a great movie with the whole family. If you are a fan of Vince Gill and you weren’t able to purchase tickets to the sold out performance at the Angelina Arts Alliance Temple Theater today, then you’re in luck. The Angelina Arts Alliance will be selling “rush” tickets at the door starting at 6:30 p.m. Friday for $20 each. The purchaser may go into the theater at 7:25 p.m. and sit in any empty seat. If you cannot find an available seat, then you may bring your ticket back to the box office for a $20 refund. If you have any questions about “rush” tickets for the Vince Gill show, call 633-5454.
Tee It Up for Teachers Golf Tournament will be taking place June 15 at Crown Colony Country Club. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit Angelina County teachers. Entry fee for a team of four is $500 and includes lunch, the awards ceremony, contests and lots of door prizes as well as chances to win big if you make a hole-in-one. The summer months are finally here, but there is no need to panic about what to do with the kids. There are so many different summer camps going on for every child’s interest. If they love to paint, contact the Museum of East Texas for Art Camp starting. If your child loves reading check out Kurth Memorial Library and join their summer reading program. For the athletic child, enroll them at the Crown Colony County Club for tennis camp and golf camp. Maybe your child dreams of being on the stage?
