Summer is coming to an end but that doesn’t mean the fun is over just yet.
As always, the Texas Forestry Museum has plenty to keep you entertained. On Saturday the Forestry Museum presents Family Day. Family Day is a free event that allows families to participate in activities together in a fun environment. We hope to see you there.
Downtown this month, The Pines Presents kicks off another fabulous show after a three month summer break. Don’t miss Mike Farris at The Pines Theater Thursday. Mike Farris became the first artist to receive a Grammy Award for Best Roots Gospel Album, for his “Shine for All the People.” Farris is bringing his powerful soul-gospel to Texas for a one-night-only performance at The Pines in downtown Lufkin. Tickets range from $25-$35 and can be purchased online at thepineslufkin.com or by calling 633-0359. Also at The Pines this month is the teen movie sensation, “Grease” on Aug. 15. Tickets for all Pines movies are $5 a person and drinks and snacks are $2 each. Bring the whole family for a great night out in downtown Lufkin.
Other events going on this month include Crossfire Team Roping Aug. 22 at the Angelina Exposition Center, the Museum of East Texas’ Art Camp closing reception on Aug. 23, and the Boys and Girls Club has their Black Tie Fiesta Bingo event on Aug. 29.
The Art Camp closing reception at The Museum of East Texas will feature more than 1,000 works of art that were created by young artists during the summer Art Camps. This event is free and open to the public so swing by to take a look at the display made by Lufkin’s youngest artists.
The Black Tie Fiesta Bingo benefitting the Lufkin Boys and Girls Club will be a night of fun where guests enjoy dinner, a silent and live auction, and of course several rounds of bingo where they can win fabulous prizes. Tickets are $100 each, $700 for a table of eight and $1,000 for a sponsorship that includes recognition and a table of eight. The Lufkin Convention and Visitors Bureau is pleased to announce that we are gearing up for our 6th annual Lufkin’s Bistro on Oct. 3. Tickets will be going on sale at the end of this month, so be sure to call in to reserve your tickets. This is always a sold-out event, and this year we are increasing the numbers to 900 attendees. Tickets are $30 each or $300 for a reserved table of eight. Enjoy an evening under the stars in downtown Lufkin, dance to live music while sampling wines and beers not only from all across Texas but internationally, and treat yourself to the delicious hors d’oeuvres catered in by our finest local chefs and restaurants. On another note, the inaugural year of the Yule Love Lufkin Christmas Festival begins Dec. 18-21, so mark your calendars.
