Lufkin's Farm Feast to spotlight East Texas farmers, chefs

A new culinary event in Lufkin will spotlight East Texas farmers and chefs.

Lufkin’s Farm Feast, which will be held June 16 at the Angelina County Farmers Market, affords foodies across the region the opportunity to enjoy a locally sourced dinner celebrating East Texas farmers.

Farm Feast begins with a wine-and-cheese hour featuring live bluegrass music at 6 p.m. A sit-down, four-course meal with wine pairings will follow at 7 p.m.

Local chefs will be using fresh, flavorful ingredients from farms within a 100-mile radius of Lufkin. Brookshire Brothers will provide specialty cheeses, wines and beers.

“This farm-to-table dinner will feature local chefs collaborating with local farmers to create a menu straight from the land,” said Tara Watson-Watkins, executive director of the Lufkin Convention and Visitors Bureau. “We’re taking the concept one step further by having the dinner at the Farmers Market. Our featured farmers will have booths, and there will be a set of recipe cards with each place setting. Guests will receive recipes directly from the chefs who prepared the food, and they can buy fresh ingredients directly from the farmers who grew it.”

Organizers describe the event as “snappy casual,” blending an elegant dinner with a fun, laid-back atmosphere.

Tables are $500 and individual tickets are $50 per person. A limited number of seats are available and only two tables will be available for those who purchase individual tickets, so organizers encourage you to purchase a table to guarantee you are able to sit with friends. Tickets will be available for purchase atvisitlufkin.com.

“Lufkin’s Farm Feast is about sharing a meal and some special time with family and friends while celebrating the abundant bounty of our East Texas farmers,” said Watson-Watkins. “These sorts of farm-to-table events are the new big thing, and they’re growing more and more popular. People make reservations months in advance and drive long distances for a chance to enjoy really fresh, really good dinners. It’s exciting to be a part of bringing the hottest thing in fine dining to Lufkin.”

Lufkin Farm Feast sponsors and partners include the Lufkin Economic Development Corporation, Lufkin Farmers Market, Kennerly Farms, Brookshire Brothers, Tome Catering and Grandough Baking Co.

Local FFA students will assist with serving, and a portion of the event’s proceeds will go toward agriculture scholarships for local students.

Lufkin’s Farm Feast is intended for adults. Due to the length of the event and out of respect for other guests, organizers request that guests do not bring children.

The event is best suited for flexible eaters, and organizers may not be able to accommodate strict dietary restrictions, such as severe food allergies.
