We are so happy Texas Local Fire Fighters chose our community to host the Texas Local Fire Fighters' Retirement Act Educational Conference, September 7-10, 2014.
Thanks,Lufkin Fire Chief Ted Lovett, for the great shout out in the Lufkin Daily News! We loved hosting the TLFFRA Conference and hope to have you back in the near future!
LOVETT: Lufkin Fire Department will never forget 9-11
A total of 343 firefighters lost their lives the day of 9-11, as well as many police, emergency responders, and citizens. “We will never forget” is the theme this month here at Lufkin Fire. Many emergency workers have died since that day, and many more are fighting illness due to the exposures they encountered while working that horrific event.
We should never forget the sacrifices of the dedicated men and women that put their selves in harm’s way to protect and serve.
With that, I would like to send out a huge “Thank You” to our local H.E.B. grocery for the donation and the generosity Linda and her co-workers showed us this past Saturday at our Lufkin Fire/9-11 Memorial family picnic. Lynne Haney with Coca-Cola also donated a variety of beverages for this inaugural event.
We recently added 13 new employees to our family due to some recent turnover. Captain Tino Villasana had the great idea of having a picnic so all of our new employees (and their families) could meet our existing employees and their families. Linda with H.E.B. contacted me about doing something in appreciation of our employees for 9-11. Not only did they provide meals to our firefighters that day, her and several wonderful H.E.B. employees were at Station No. 3 bright and early Saturday morning with all of the food and accessories for our picnic; what a great gesture! This is just one of many times H.E.B. and Coca-Cola have taken care of us with good deeds and donations, and it is very much appreciated!
I would also like to say “Thank You” to the city of Lufkin for hosting our Texas Firefighter Pension Conference this past week. A lot of hard work went into bringing this conference to Lufkin and I would like to acknowledge LCVB director Tara Watson Watkins, Plan Administrator Diana Russell, Board members Jimmy Ragsdale, Tino Villasana, Levi Cole, Danny Roper, Stanley Knew, Rufus Duncan and Paul Parker for all of their work making this a huge success. We had about 160 firefighters from around the State attend this conference where willing participants were entertained by a poker night and reception sponsored by our Local 3034, a golf tournament at Crown Colony Country Club, skeet shoot at Pines Gun Club, and a bistro downtown featuring Bryan Harkness with a fajita dinner catered by El Chico. We had a lot of positive feedback about the events, conference and entertainment arranged by Tara and the board members. Great job!
