The Lufkin Convention and Visitors Bureau will team up with a local production company to create a video promoting the city’s assets.
Board members voted on Thursday to award a $6,870 bid to Sight and Sound Films to produce a two- to three-minute promotional video that would feature 12 area locations and events: Lufkin’s Bistro, Pineywoods Purgatory, Farm Feast, Crown Colony, Lake Sam Rayburn, downtown Lufkin, Pines Theater, Pitser Garrison Convention Center, hotels, Ellen Trout Zoo, Angelina College sports complex and Kit McConnico Park.
“About a year ago, we decided we wanted to create a new video, not only to have when we’re bidding on conventions, but to also be able to promote Lufkin so people would want to come for our events,” said Tara Watson-Watkins, LCVB executive director. “We’ve been kicking around this idea, and we’re excited to be able to work with Philip Harbuck of Sight and Sound Films.”
Harbuck serves on the LCVB board, but Watson-Watkins said the board has gone through the procedures to avoid a conflict of interest.
“We’re excited about being able to keep the money local,” she said. “One thing that Philip is really good at is keeping the personal touch of the video. We’ve got to do an overview of the community and what we have to offer, but we’ve got to keep the human touch in there so people can see and feel the events that we do.”
Watson-Watkins said production of the video would likely take five to six months.
The other bidding party was McKinney-based Neon Cloud Productions LLC.
